Abstract

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning are transforming the way computers perform tasks that traditionally required
human intelligence. This chapter introduces the foundational concepts of Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning,
explaining their meaning, scope, and interrelationship. It traces the historical evolution of AI and the emergence of machine
learning as a data-driven approach to intelligence. The chapter discusses different types of AI and core learning paradigms
such as supervised, unsupervised, and reinforcement learning. Key algorithms and techniques are outlined to provide an
understanding of how intelligent systems learn from data. Applications of AI and ML across business, healthcare, finance, and
education are also explored, along with challenges related to ethics, bias, and future developments.
